Route Progress May 2022
May 22, 2022Doon Castle Broch – Revealed from the Rubble
July 11, 2022Our friends at Stranraer Development Trust have developed a great new tour for locals and visitors to explore the Rhins. The Lighthouses of the Rhins Trail encourages people to explore six of these iconic lighthouses by e-bike, whether perched on clifftops or guarding the entrance to picturesque harbours.
The lighthouses all have a fascinating history and many stories to tell and these have been brought to life to celebrate the Year of Scotland’s Stories 2022. Through a series of films, captured in a digital flipbook, a host of local experts share their unique knowledge of the Lights and stories about the people living and working in them, their foghorns and tragic shipwrecks. The short documentaries, which feature wonderful aerial footage, convey the importance of these amazing structures and allow visitors to experience our maritime heritage up close.
The self-guided trail is specially designed for e-bikes and tour bookings include everything needed, including a short in-person tutorial so the bike is perfectly adjusted for you to enjoy. Visitors can explore the Lighthouses at their own pace and, while some of the Lighthouses have restricted access, everyone can enjoy their commanding viewpoints across the Irish Sea from the Rhins of Galloway Coast.
More information and booking about the Lighthouses of the Rhins Trail can be found on the Stranraer Development Trust’s website: https://www.stranraerdevelopmenttrust.co.uk/lighthouse-tours.
