One of Scotlands most iconic birds of prey the Golden Eagle was for many years almost extinct in Southern Scotland. In 2018 the Golden Eagle South Scotland project began to change this. Chicks were relocated from nests in well populated areas of the Highlands and released into the Moffat Hills. Keep your eyes open as you walk this section of the route for the dramatic sight of an eagle soaring over the hills.
