Black Loch
September 6, 2022The Hoard
September 13, 2022On the Southern Upland Way as you cross the A702 at Overfingland you also cross the remains of a Roman road. It runs parallel to the A702 from one of the main Roman Roads between Hadrians Wall and the Antonaine Wall in the highlands and the large Roman fort at Drumlanrig. Between Elvanfoot and the top of the Dalveen pass it follows parallel to the route of the A702 just a few metres away from the modern road. At the top of the Dalveen pass it goes down the next glen to Durisdeer. This section of the road is a core path and makes a fantastic walk starting from Durisdeer. Just outside the village it passes Durisdeer Roman Fortlet, one of the best preserved roman forts in Scotland and well worth a visit.
