Cairn na Gath

This huge pile of stones is in fact a neolithic chambered long cairn. Many of the stones have been taken to build walls and buildings in the area so it is now much smaller than it was originally. The smaller heap of stones on the top is a more recent addition built by shepherds and hillwalkers over the years.

Four thousand years ago it would have been a burial place for the people living in the area. Inside are small chambers where the dead were laid to rest.
