Garrowgill High Route – it’s official!

Published by Ross at June 20, 2018

In the near future we will be making the high route at Garrowgill the official Southern Upland Way. What a great way to leave Dumfries and Galloway behind, and enter the Scottish Borders! At the moment the high route is classed as an alternative route. If the weather is really bad then the forest road route will remain open for use and will continue to be waymarked. However, unless you enjoy walking plantations and forest roads, we’d encourage you to use the high route taking in the peaks of Gateshaw Rig, Croft head, Crookedside Schlenders and down Cat’s Shoulder. It’s been recently checked, waymarking improved, fallen trees cleared and its ready to go! In the winter of 2018 we’ll get a bit of TLC of the first section, so bear with us here, but for now I’ll give it a blast with a strimmer. Ross
