Beattock Hill Fort

On the hill above you is the site of Beattock Hill Fort. Dating from the Iron Age it would originally have been an large and impressive defensive structure on the summit of the hill with views over the entire of upper Annandale. Two outer walls enclosed several buildings inside and there is evidence of more houses showing a settlement surrounded the fort. All that remains now are some earthworks that show the size and scale of what once stood here.
